The 40-megapixel sensor has an area 223% larger than the iPhone X, and 170% larger than the Galaxy S9+. Therefore, it has extremely high light sensitivity, reaching ISO 102,400 (most smartphones reach ISO 6,400). In addition, we have four different focus techniques here: laser, phase detection, depth and contrast detection. The camera has a “predictive focus” that detects motion and automatically chooses the mode that will give clearer images.
There is also a 3x optical zoom (and a 5x “hybrid zoom”); the colour temperature sensor, to improve the white balance in the images; and a dedicated ISP (image signal processor). And, of course, the camera has some artificial intelligence capabilities. Basically, the P20 Pro (just like P20) selects the most suitable mode for the scene, be it “macro” or “landscape” or “portrait” with the blurred background. Moreover, the P20 Pro can record slow-motion video at 960 frames per second in HD resolution, just like the Galaxy S9 and S9+. However, the arrival of the Huawei P20 Pro has shown that Huawei’s bet on the smartphone market is strong and quickly seeks to stand out. Beyond the excellent specifications of this top-of-the-range smartphone, there is a lot of technology that puts it at a level above what the market offers. The recognition of these qualities has now emerged with the election of the P20 Pro as the best smartphone of the year. The Huawei P20 Pro smartphone was voted “Best Smartphone of the Year” by the European Image and Sound Association (EISA), a group of 55 of the world’s most respected consumer electronics magazines. The association underlines that the “Best Smartphone EISA 2018-2019” award was awarded to the P20 Pro in recognition of Huawei’s commitment to quality, design, and performance, as well as the company’s long history of introducing elegant, powerful and award-winning devices. This is the sixth consecutive year that the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei is recognized by EISA. EISA has selected the Huawei P20 Pro as the best smartphone of the year for being “the most advanced, innovative and technically superior mobile phone ever” as well as “the perfect companion for mobile users and a trendsetter in the field of photography. “The prize will be formally presented to the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei during the IFA at the EISA Awards Ceremony on 31 August in Berlin. The revolutionary Triple Leica camera on the P20 Pro holds the highest total pixel count among all smartphone cameras currently on the market. This camera features a 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom as well as innovative features including the Huawei AIS (AI Image Stabilization) as we hinted earlier. The camera’s main features allow for a great low-light shooting experience, making it one of the few devices that can take long exposure photos without a tripod due to Huawei’s proprietary AIS technology. It is also exceptional for the 4000mAh battery that puts the Huawei P20 Pro among smartphones with greater autonomy capabilities. Overall, the P20 Pro represents “a winning combination of hardware, optics, and skill,” noted EISA. Thanks to the world’s first AI technology chipset, this smartphone offers a smooth and fast user experience. The association also highlighted the elegant design of the Huawei P20 Pro with frames and new gradations of colors. Over the past six years, Huawei P10 has been honored with the “EISA Smartphone Camera 2017-2019”, Huawei Watch 2 as “Wearable EISA 2017-2019” and Huawei P9 elected as the “European Consumer Smartphone 2016-2017”.
