Before we go any further, it’s worth noting that the details of these events are significant spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder. So if you’d like to enjoy the movie spoiler-free, we recommend you turn back now.
Is Zeus Dead in Thor: Love and Thunder?
Despite Thor presumably killing him, the movie’s end credits revealed that Zeus survived the attack. Thor and the rest of his group had thought he had died after the legendary Thunderbolt had gone through him, but he somehow remained alive. Of course, he isn’t the first god to escape death, especially since Loki came back to life several times before. Now that Zeus is alive, he has a vendetta against Thor for going against him, causing the mystical being to task his son, Hercules, with a mission to kill the God of Thunder.
What Could Happen Next After the Events of Thor: Love and Thunder?
Hercules is a mighty hero featured in many comics of the Marvel Universe. Like Thor, he is a direct reference to Greek mythology, which provides details about his immense strength and invulnerability against brutal attacks. So, what could this mean for the God of Thunder? If we look at specific comics in the timeline, we may get an answer to this question. According to previous storylines, the relationship between Thor and Hercules often results in fights due to their ongoing rivalry. For example, Thor Issue 126 showcases the two battling it out in the city of New York and ultimately ends in Hercules’ favor. In addition, we can examine another showdown in Thor Issue 221, where they both, once again, fight to the death in the magnificent Olympus. In several comics, Zeus has also been in a few fights against Thor, including Thor Annual 8. However, there are still crucial moments where Thor and Hercules get along and team up together to stop dreadful foes. For instance, in Thor Issue 418, the God of Thunder rescues him while he gets brutally beaten by the Wrecker. Moreover, these particular timelines exhibit Hercules as a member of the Avengers. Looking over these narratives, we can understand what will come next in Thor’s journey. We know Hercules will have something to do with his storyline in a future installment, thanks to the end credits scene. But, even if Zeus’ son is on the hunt for the God of Thunder, the comics suggest that the two won’t be enemies for long. Furthermore, Thor: Love and Thunder followed along with the books in the devastating cancer story about Jane Foster, so Marvel could do the same with Hercules’ plotline. The only difference is that Zeus believes Thor to be his enemy, a relatively foreign concept in the comics, with the exception of their several fights in the past. Therefore, if Hercules and Thor somehow recognize their differences in the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, could this provoke Zeus to fight against him? Or will Hercules go in an entirely different direction from the books and become a villain? We’ll just have and see what the future has in store for the God of Thunder. Now that you know that Zeus isn’t dead in Thor: Love and Thunder, you can see what comes next for the God of Thunder as more updates and news arrives.
