When Did the PS4 Come Out?
Sony’s PlayStation 4 came out on Nov. 15, 2013, following the massive success of its predecessor, the PS3. During its initial debut, the PS4 sold over one million units in 24 hours, making the system one of the fastest-selling game consoles. The PS4 day one launch also featured an exciting lineup of popular games, such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Angry Birds: Star Wars. Since then, more hit major titles have increased the system’s popularity, along with some new equipment and upgraded PlayStation subscriptions. Even though the PS4 has been out for several years, the console is still doing reasonably well, especially when Sony revealed its sales during the Business Segment Briefings 2022. For example, in the second and third years of the PS5, the PS4 outsold its successor. Furthermore, purchases from the PlayStation Store and subscribers of Playstation Plus are primarily from the PS4, resulting in a much longer life cycle than Sony expected. However, it may be a surprise to hear that Sony’s older model, the PlayStation 2, remains the best-selling console of all time, with over 150 million units sold. But, as more upgrades come out, including PlayStation Stars and its revamped PlayStation Plus tier system, the PS5 could possibly take over this spot one day.
